13 Natural Remedies to Cure Puffy Eyes

Puffy or swollen eyes are caused by fluid retention, stress, allergies, hormonal changes, and poor diet. Sometimes a diet high in sodium also causes eye puffiness because sodium causes water retention under eyes and results in eyes puffiness. Crying is often accompanied by swollen eyes because the tiny glands in the eyelids that produce tears become inflamed from over activity. 1 . Water

The easiest way to get rid of puffy eyes is to drink water. You musttry to drink at least 8-10 glasses of water each day. When the body is well hydrated, there is less chance of water retention which can cause your eyelids and other parts of your body to swell. Water will also help to flush out toxins from the water. Along with increasing your intake of water you must also reduce the amount of salt you eat. Also it is better not to drink sodas, coffees, or sugary drinks as it can dehydration.

2 . Chilled Milk

If you have extremely puffed up eyes this is the regular regime that you will have to follow. Dip cotton pads in chilled milk and place on your eyelids and relax for 20-30 minutes. This well help your eyes in water retention and it would also cool them off .

3 . Cucumbers

Applying a cold cucumber slice to each eye may help to instantly calm tired, puffy eyes due to a cooling effect, and it may also help soften the skin around your eyes. Additionally, cucumber can work as a toner
and brighten skin, helping to treat discoloration. Some may say that using cucumbers on the eye area is an old remedy that may just be all in your mind, but others seem to swear by it!

4 . Potato Slices

Slice a raw potato (after refrigerating for a couple of minutes) into two and circle the closed eyes gently with those halves. Place it on your eyes so that it also covers the puffed ares under your eyes and leave it like that for 15-20 minutes. You'll notice a tremendous change in those bags as they'll be diminished in size.

5. Egg Whites

Egg whites have got skin tightening properties that can give relief to puffy eyes as well as help in the prevention of wrinkles. Take two eggs in a bowl after separating the yolk from it. Now whip the egg whites properly until you get a stiff consistency. Add a few drops of witch hazel to it which is also a natural skin-tightening astringent. You can use rose water on the eye area by soaking a cotton ball and applying to the area for about 10 minutes.

 7 . Cucumber juice

Take five to six metal spoons and place it in your refrigerator for five to ten minutes. Now take out the cold spoon and hold the rounded portion against your eye for a few minutes until the spoon becomes warm. As the spoon warms, replace it with a cold one from the refrigerator. This will help in tightening up the skin around your eyes. It will also relax the blood vessels thus offering relief to the tired eyes. This simple home remedy is surprisingly very effective when it comes to treating puffy eyes. In case you are not comfortable using a metal spoon, then you can use a bag of frozen peas.

10 . Mint leaves

Applying mint leaves to the eye area causes a tingling sensation, which increases blood flow to the area and can help dark circles fade away. Simply crush up a few mint leaves and apply to your eyes for about 5 minutes. Then wash away with cool water. For more of a paste, you can mix crushed mint leaves with honey or olive oil before applying to the eye area.

 11 . Cold Spoons

 If your eyes are burning and itching due to an allergic reaction, cold spoons can constrict irritated blood vessels, reducing redness and swelling at the same time. Simply chill spoons in the refrigerator (for quick chilling, you can use the freezer, but make check the temperature of the spoons on the back of your hand to ensure they aren't too cold), and then place one over each eye, curved side down. The best part about this tip is that it requires no prep work — you can keep two spoons in the fridge so that they're ready to go anytime you need a quick pick-me-up.

12 . Tomato paste

Households always have tomatoes in the kitchen. The fruit is used not only in lots of food preparation but also in home remedies. Among the best concoctions to treat the dark circles of the eyes is tomato paste. This is made using fresh tomatoes, some lemon juice, a small amount of turmeric powder and gram flour. Spread some of the mixture around the eyes and allow it to stay for the next ten to fifteen minutes. Do this natural treatment on a daily basis and results will be apparent in time. Puffiness and dark circles will eventually go away.

 13 . Salt

Jumbo fries, pepperoni pizza, and other salt-intense foods can cause puffy eyes. However, salt by itself does the eyes good. Get rid of the puffy eyes by mixing 1/2 teaspoon salt into 1 quart warm water. Dip cotton balls or facial pads into the solution, then lie down and apply pads to the eyelids. Rest in this position for at least ten minutes while keeping the pads in place. You'll arise with deflated eyes.
