Home Remedies For Stiff Neck


Stiff neck is a bothersome problem. It occurs when a muscle in the neck is strained. Inappropriate posture, especially while sleeping or while working for a prolonged period, and stress are some of the key causes of stiff neck. Although stiff neck usually does not indicate a serious underlying health problem, nevertheless, the pain can be quite unbearable at the initial stage. Fortunately, with the help of natural remedies you can easily get rid of the pain and stiffness in the neck.

1 . Massage

Massage is a good cure for stiff neck. You can use essential oils, like pine,Pine oil,  rosemary, lavender or juniper for massaging as it will provide the necessary warmth to the neck muscles along with increasing the blood circulation. A gentle massage greatly helps in relaxing the muscles while reducing the stiffness.

2 . Hot Showers or Baths


Because warmth helps to ease muscle tension, baths and showers can be a great natural home remedy. I would recommend baths above showers. Baths tend to be more relaxing and you can add scented soaps. Baths can ease muscle pain and help you relax, hitting two of the main causes of neck stiffness.

3 . Ice Packs

Crush some ice and wrap it in a poly bag. Now, cover the stiff part of neck with a small cloth or towel, then place the wrapped ice over it. Ice is really useful for stiff neck pain relief. It also reduces the inflammation caused due to the soreness.

4 . Heating Pad


Place a heating pad over your sore neck. It is a useful remedy which will increase the blood flow while decreasing the stiffness of the
neck.

5 . Neck Exercises

When your neck is stiff, it might be hard to move at all, but even if you can move it a little bit, try some of these exercises. Move your head forward and back for a couple of minutes.

If it hurts, don’t try to push yourself. Just move as far as you can without adding injury. Then move your head side to side, making sure not to hurt yourself again. Lastly, turn your head left and right. Do each of these easy exercise for a few minutes and repeat if you have to.

6 .  Apple Cider Vinegar


Apple cider vinegar is an amazing natural method to get relief from the neck stiff by using it one time. Take some apple cider vinegar, put a napkin into it and then cover the stiffed area with the soaked napkin. Leave the napkin over the stiffer area for few hours and you would notice a great relief in your neck pain.

7 .  Exercise

Normal neck moving exercises can also help in reducing the stiffness in the neck muscles. The motion of the neck helps in increasing the blood flow inside the neck muscle. Move your neck slowly in circular motions or in back and forth directions without invoking more pain.

8 . Epsom Salt

Soak Epsom salt in your bath water and take a bath with it. This salt contains magnesium and sulphate, which regulates the activity of various enzymes in the body. This remedy helps in increasing the blood circulation, reducing the muscle tension and stress.

9 . Celery

Drinking blended celery can help to repair nerve damage that might have occurred if you were sitting in an awkward position or if you slept oddly. This can also help to relieve stress. If you have neck or back pain that comes with your menstrual cycle, then celery can help that too.


You should also take all the preventive measures to avoid the possibility of neck stiffness. Use a proper pillow at the time of sleep, maintain a good posture, take short breaks after every hour of work and avoid too much stress. 10 . Eucalyptus Oil
