Natural Herbal Remedies for Strep Throat

1 . Licorice Root

Even if a sore throat isn’t serious enough to warrant a trip to the doctor, it’s still painful and may interfere with a good night’s sleep. Fortunately, there are a number of at-home remedies you can use to soothe the pain and irritation. Licorice root has long been used to treat sore throats, and recent research shows it is effective when mixed with water to create a gargle solution. A 2009 study, for instance, found it soothed patients’ throats and diminished coughing after surgery.

2 . Slippery Elm

We don’t have many studies on slippery elm, but it’s long been a traditional remedy for sore throat. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, Native Americans took it to relieve coughs and sore throats. Slippery elm has a mucus-like substance in it. When mixed with water, this substance forms a slick gel that coats and soothes. To use, pour boiling water over powdered bark, stir, and drink. You may also find slippery elm lozenges that will help.

3 . Chamomile Tea

This one is considered as one of the most effective remedies for treating strep throat. According to the experts, chamomile is rich in analgesic properties that can trigger quick relief from pain in throat and headaches. If taken after every few hours, the tea may also alleviate fever and avert dehydration.

4 . Cayenne Pepper

Next to apple cider vinegar, cayenne is also one of the most revered natural remedies for strep and sore throat. Try taking some cayenne and mixing it in a small amount of water, or simply utilize the powder on its own. Then dip a Q-tip or some other usable brush into the solution and dab it on the back of your throat. You could also make a paste out of raw organic honey and cayenne pepper by mixing about 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper with the honey, and then rub the paste on the back of your throat – the health benefits of honey are also incredible. Alternatively, you could use fresh lemon juice for the mixture instead of warm water or honey.

5 . Eucalyptus

According to the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC), the eucalyptus leaves when used in teas can aid in treating a throat infection. Even the nutrition expert Phyllis Balch endorses the use of eucalyptus for obtaining relief from strep throat. He says that this herb has the power to trigger mild antiseptic action for treating coughs, infections, and respiratory disorders. It has also been found that the herb may also be effective in alleviating swelling.
