14 Home Remedies To Heal Cracked Heels


Cracked heels with flaky patches tends to be worsen for people with dry skin. Dry thick skin around the heel may cause cracked heels. Usually oily skin rarely affected with this problem. Lack of zinc, deficiency of Vitamin A & E and dehydration are the most common causes behind this problem. However, here are various natural remedies that can come to rescue and heal up the cracked heels.

1 . Olive oil

Apply to clean feet, olive oil and massage in circular motion for 10 minutes. Put on socks and after an hour, wash and dry your feet. To make a moisturizer for you feet, you can take 1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil and add a few drops of lemon and lavender oil and put in a small bottle. Add an equal amount of water and shake. You can apply this 2 to 3 times a day.

2 . Lemon, Salt, Glycerin and Rose Water Foot Mask

This is one of the best home remedies for preventing cracked heels as well as to cure cracked heels at the very first stage. Add raw salt, lemon juice, glycerin and rose water in warm water. Soak your cracked feet in this warm water for about 10-15 minutes. Scrub off your dry skin from heel (which gets loose after soaking) with the help of pumice stone or foot file or scrubber. Now take 1 tsp raw glycerin (thick one), one tsp rose water and 1 tsp lemon juice and mix them well. Apply this thick paste to your cracked heels. This might feel a little sticky but you must tolerate it if you want to get rid of cracked heels. If needed, wear a pair of socks and go to bed. Wash off in the morning. You might require to follow this regime for 2-3 days or even 7-10 days to cure cracked heels.

3 . Paraffin wax

Take Paraffin wax, and melt it adding some coconut oil to it. Fill in the crack with this mixture whilst going to bed, wash off in the morning. Mum did for around 2 weeks and the cracked heels are gone.

4 . Vaseline and lemon juice


Clean and dry your heels. Once all the dirt is out, soak your feet in warm water for about 15-20 minutes. Rinse and pat dry.Take 1tsp Vaseline and the juice of a lemon. Rub this mixture over your heels and other cracked parts of the foot. Rub this in nicely, till it gets absorbed in the skin. Apply this mixture before going to bed and keep on overnight, wearing a pair of woollen socks, as these socks help trap body heat and increase the effectiveness of the mixture. Wash off in the morning.

5 . Lemon juice and papaya

Make a mixture of lemon juice and papaya; apply it on the cracked heels. Let it be there for 20 minutes at least. Wash off after 20 minutes.

6 . Turmeric, Tulsi and Camphor

Mix turmeric, tulsi and camphor in equal parts along with aloe vera gel and apply the paste on the heels. Just plain aloe vera gel is great for cracked heels.

7 .  Lemon

Soak the feet in lemon juice for about 10 minutes. Follow this therapy on a weekly basis until one finds a change. Lemon juice is a very mild natural acid and helps to dissolve dead and dry skin son that it can be easily removed. It is best to soak your feet in a lemon juice solution and then lightly scrub it with a loofa or soft foot brush to gently exfoliate the top layers of dead skin that cause dry cracked heels.

8 . Apple Seeds with Pumpkin Seeds

Make a paste with apple seeds and pumpkin seeds . Apply this paste on affected area and wear soaks. Leave it overnight next morning you will find your heel with a magical change with soft and beautiful heels.

9 . Paraffin wax

After soaking and scrubbing the dry skin cells from your feet, heat one tablespoon of wax along with the same amount of mustard or coconut oil. Apply this to your feet and put on clean socks. Leave it on overnight. In the morning, wash and dry your feet. You can do this for about 2 weeks and should have good results.

10 . Feet Oil Massage

This is again a very good and easy home remedy for cracked heels and even for dry feet that get cracked very easily. Massage cracked heels with one of these oils sesame oil, coconut oil or any other hydrogenated vegetable oil before going to bed. Wear a pair of socks (better if old because you might not be able to use them afterwards) and go to bed. Follow this schedule for 3-5 days or as per your requirement- till you heal your cracked heels.

11 . Omega 3 Fatty Acids

Pasture-raised meat, enriched dairy products, enriched eggs, edamame, wild rice, walnuts, canola oil, flax, beans, tuna, mackerel, halibut, lake trout, sardines, herring and salmon.

12 . Wax and Mustard Oil Treatment

If you have tried everything else and yet not able to cure cracked heels, you need to give the wax treatment for cracked heels. You need paraffin wax for this. To make this more simpler, you can even use the wax melted from a regular candle lying in your home! For this, make pieces of a candle after removing its wick (thread). Now take some mustard oil. Heat the wax and the mustard oil to make a paste like formation. After soaking your feet in warm water and scrubbing the dry skin off, apply this wax-mustard oil paste on your heel cracks. If you have deep cracks, fill this wax paste into those fissures. Then wear a pair of socks. It will be more effective if you do this cracked heels treatment before going to bed. Do it for about a week and you will be astonished at your smooth feet without cracked heels! Save the wax-mustard oil paste in a bottle. Next time when you need it, you just have to heat it a little or keep it out in sun for sometime and its ready to heal cracked heels

13 . Honey

Soak your feet in warm water and honey for 15 minutes. You can make a natural foot scrub with honey, apple cider vinegar, and rice flour. Take a handful of a fine, but coarse rice flour and add a few spoons of raw honey and apple cider vinegar to make a thick paste. Add a tablespoon of olive oil to the paste. Apply this paste to your freshly, washed and dried feet and massage for 5 minutes.  Then, wash and dry your feet, apply a moisturizer or oil of some kind and apply socks.

14 . Coconut Powder with Honey


Mix few honey drops in 3-4 tablespoons of coconut powder. Fill your socks heels area with this mixture and wear these socks for overnight. Next morning you will see your feet without any sign of cracked skin.
