23 Home Remedies to Cure Constipation

Almost everyone has suffered from the constipation once in their life but when it becomes chronic, it is difficult to deal with. In constipation, the bowel movement becomes irregular or infrequent and the stool remains for long time in the colon.

Symptoms of Constipation may include:

Irregular or less frequent bowel movements or anything less than thrice a week (severe constipation refers to only one or less bowel movements per week)

Causes of Constipation

Constipation occurs because of the slow passage of digesting food through the intestines. While this could occur in any part of the intestine in almost all cases this occurs in the colon. In almost all cases the main cause of constipation is a poor diet or dehydration, but it may also be caused due to certain medications. In some cases, constipation may also be a symptom of an underlying medical condition such as IBS or Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

1 . Lemon

You can always use lemon to treat constipation. Extract the juice of half a lemon and add it to a glass of warm water. Now add a pinch of rock salt and honey to it. Drink this lemon water first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. In the evening time also you can drink this solution. Follow this remedy daily and within a few days your problem of constipation will be a part of history. This is one of the simplest and most effective constipation treatments that you can try at home.

2 . Honey

Honey is known for its mild laxative benefits. If you’re constipated, try taking one tablespoon three times a day. You can take it alone, but it’s much nicer in a warm cup of tea or just hot water with a bit of lemon.

3 . Lemon and honey

Mix two tablespoons of lemon juice and one teaspoon of honey into a glass of warm water.  Drink a glass in the morning and one at night to regulate your bowels.

4 . Castor Oil

Castor oil can also be used to treat constipation. There is a special kind of compound present in castor oil that when digested stimulates the small and large intestines and improves the bowel movement. You simply need to swallow one to two teaspoons of castor oil on an empty stomach. Do not forget to drink plenty of water throughout the water. Within a few hours you can notice huge improvement in your condition. You must not follow this remedy for long time as it can cause side effects also.

5 . Figs

Boil a few figs (fresh and ripe or dried) in a glass of milk, and drink this mixture at night before going to bed. Figs have high fiber content and provide quick relief from constipation.

6 . Constipation treatment with Orange

Orange is also beneficial in the constipation treatment. Taking one or two oranges at bedtime and again on increasing in the morning is an excellent way of stimulating the bowels. The all-purpose stimulating influence of orange juice stimulates peristaltic activity and helps prevent the accumulation of food residue in the colon.

7 . Ginger

For a person who has very weak body or for children, apply crushed amla surrounding navel or belly button to make a wall and then fill it with ginger juice. The application of ginger juice around the belly button is one of the easiest remedies to cure constipation.

  8 .Water

When suffering from constipation it is very important to drink enough fluids. Make sure to drink about eight to ten glasses of water daily. For better result, try to drink water which has been kept overnight in a copper vessel, first thing in the morning. This will stimulate bowel movements and give you good results within a few days. Along with water you can also drink fresh vegetable juice and fruit juice throughout the day. At the same time you must avoid alcoholic beverages and caffeine as it cause dehydration and will make your
condition really bad.

 9 . Spinach

Spinach is really good for the digestive tract and especially when you are suffering from constipation. Raw spinach has various components that can cleanse, reconstruct and regenerate the whole intestinal tract. To get rid of constipation you must include spinach in your diet. You can eat it in either raw or cooked form depending upon how you like it. In case of severe constipation problem, it is highly recommended to drink a mixture of half glass of raw spinach juice and half glass of water. You must drink this solution twice daily. Within a few days, you will get much relief.

10 . Guggul powder

Add one pinch of guggul powder in warm water and drink it in the morning at an empty stomach. After drinking it, walk for about 15 minutes, you will surely get relief from constipation.

The bitter taste supports the entire digestive process, creating a cascade of events such as digestive enzyme secretion, bile production and secretion, and peristalsis. 14 . Dates(khajoor) to cure constipation

Boil 4-5 Dates(khajoor) in milk and consume. This home remedy will surely work in relieving constipation.

15 . Constipation treatment with Pear

Pears are useful in the treatment of constipation. Patients suffering from chronic constipation must accept an exclusive diet of this fruit or it's juice for a few days, but in normal cases, a medium-sized pear taken after dinner or with breakfast will have the desired effect.

16 . Constipation treatment via Bael Fruit

Normally all fruits, except banana and jackfruit, are useful in the treatment of constipation. Certain fruits are, however, more useful. Bael fruit is regarded as the finest of all laxatives. It cleans and tones up the bowels. Its normal use for two or three months throws out even the old accumulated faecal matter. It must be rather taken in its original form and before dinner. About sixty grams of the fruit are enough for an adult.

17 . Aloe Vera juice to cure constipation

This is one simplest home remedy for constipation and it is prepared by mixing Aloe Vera juice with black pepper rock salt and black pepper powder. The antifungal properties of Aloe Vera can help to keep the bowel movements intact, especially when consumed in the morning for two consecutive weeks. However, it is not suitable for pregnant women.

18 .Use oils to cure constipation

Vegetable oils including safflower oil, soybean oil acts as lubricating agents in the intestines. Until you got the problem under control, take 2 to 3 tablespoons daily. Enhance the intake of oils instead of butter, as this may turn up into a weight problem from a constipation problem. If you’re not comfortable in taking oil directly, mix it with herbs, vinegar or lemon juice.  Using oil and the fiber combined in the salad will fix the problem soon.

Prunes are one of the oldest home remedies for constipation. High in fibre, prunes also contain a compound called dihydroxyphenyl isatin, which kicks the colon into action.

21 . Seeds Mixture and Ground Almonds
